New Age Petanque Rules
Introduction
New Age Petanque is a game of precision, it can be played on any flat surface that allows the balls to roll. The game can be played in singles, pairs or triples.
Please note these are not official 'Competition' suitable balls (they have to be made from metal) but they are designed to be used indoors and to not damage places like sports halls
Rules
The object of the game is simple: to roll your balls to as close a proximity to the jack as possible and to ensure that one or more of your balls are closer to the jack than any of those of your opponent.
The game will start with a coin toss with the visiting team calling heads or tails whilst the coin is in the air. The winning player rolls the jack.
The players then take turns to throw their balls to try and land as close to the jack as possible, with points being scored for each ball closer to the jack than the closest opponents ball.
Upon completion of an end, play recommences in the opposite direction (i.e. from the end that the jack previously rested)
It is permissible - and often quite amusing - to strike the other players' balls with your own with the aim of gaining a strategic advantage.
Scoring
A point is awarded to the player or team whose ball is closest to the jack at the end of a round. If a player or team has more than one ball closer to the jack than their opponents, they will score the corresponding number of points.
