New Age Kurling Rules
Introduction
New Age Kurling is a sport that requires participants to deliver 'Stones' from one end of a court to a target at the other end of the court. There are different versions of targets available, but the most commonly used is 'The House Target' which has red, white and blue concentric circles and scoring is determined by the number of stones closest to the centre of the target. Each game normally consists of 6 or 8 ends and is played on a court based on half the width of a standard badminton court with each 'End' being played in the opposite direction to the previous end. The winner is the player or team with the highest number of scoring 'Stones' at the finish of the game.
Delivering Stones
The game will start with the toss of a coin with the visiting team calling heads or tails as the coin is in the air. If the competition is at a venue where neither opponent has home court advantage, it will be the player listed first on the score sheet that will call.
The person winning the toss will have the option of deciding either who will play first OR with which colour stones that they wish to play with. The person losing the toss will then choose from the option not selected by the toss winner. E.g. if the toss winner chooses to play with the red stones, then the toss looser will have the choice of who plays first.
Once it has been decided who will go first in in the first end, the players will alternate at the start of each subsequent end. Therefore, If player A wins the toss and elects to go first in the first end, Player B will go first in the second end. Player A will go first in the third end, Player B first in the fourth end and so forth until all ends have been completed. During an end players will take it in turns to deliver their 'Stones' until all stones have been delivered.
The 'Stones' may be delivered by the use of a 'Pusher', by hand or by the use of a 'Ramp'. Any form of pusher may be used, but it must not exceed 125 centimetres in length when fully extended. Ramps can be used to assist the delivery of the stone for those those disabled people who would find it hard to push their stone.
The Targets
The House Target has concentric circles in red, white and blue as the scoring zone. The other white sections of the target are not included in the scoring zone.
The Numbers Target is green and yellow and has concentric circles as the scoring zones. If the Kurling stone, bowl or ball is breaking a higher scoring line then the higher score counts
The Kounters Target has four green, four red and four blue circles placed on it, each with a different score.
Scoring - House Target
The stone which is within the scoring zone and closest to the centre of the target is deemed to be 'Scoring'. Other stones of the same colour as the closest stone will score if the are also in the scoring zone and are closer to the centre that any of the opponents' stones. (The only possible scores in a singles game for any one end are 0-0,1-0, 2-0, 3-0, or 4-0)
Scoring - Numbers Target
Scoring is by delivering all the Stones, bowls or balls and then counting the points of each team, with the highest score winning that end or game.
Scoring - Kounters Target
You score by adding up all the Kurling Stones , bowls or balls that remain on the target and land on a coloured circle - the number it lands on is the amount of points scored. Add up all of your points at the end of the game, highest score wins !
